Growing the Link’s work with children and young people

Category: Children & Young People

Children and young people have always been at the heart of the Lesotho Durham Link. In 2024, the team in Lesotho began strengthening this work with two new members of staff dedicated to supporting children and young people.

A renewed focus

Following the challenges of the Covid years, the Link took time to reflect on its ministry and renewed its focus on vulnerable children and young people.

This renewed vision was summed up simply:

To see children and youth transformed by the application of God’s Word for a brighter future.

Two new members of the team were appointed to help make that vision a reality.

Meeting children where they are

Makatleho Senaoana joined the Link as Overall Coordinator and Head of Department. As part of her first year, she planned to visit the Child Headed Households supported by the Link across 13 villages, working alongside Child Headed Household Coordinator Mabusane “Busi” Mokoena.

These visits were an important opportunity to get to know children and their families, understand the realities they face and identify where further support is needed.

Busi's work included building relationships with guardians and caregivers, meeting chiefs and community leaders, and visiting children in their homes.

Together, the team were also planning camps, gatherings and other activities for children and young people.

Building relationships for the future

The Link's approach is about more than providing practical support. It is about knowing children, listening to their experiences and helping them discover hope and opportunity for the future.

Through relationships, faith, education, activities and practical support, the team continues to work towards a brighter future for children and young people across the communities they serve.

The work continues to grow from the Link's belief that every child is valuable, has potential and deserves the opportunity to flourish.
